Image for the poem Nebraska

Nebraska

not a car parked
on the dead-end street
it`s passage blocked
pot-holes too deep
on one side
a long defunct strip-mall
not enough traffic
for shop-owners to keep
across cracked concrete
a vacant lot
adjacent
stands an abandoned building
holes in my pockets
I enter
to squat-adopt
an unfurnished flat
cupboards bare
no unwanted
creepy critters there
barren mail box
keys lost for rusty lock
as far as I`m concerned
I may as well
be sequestered
cloistered
in Nebraska
a term Ive not spoken,
heard or thought about
since I was small
hasnt been a place
since prodded
to locate it
on a two dimensional map
not a cloud
in the sky
if only I could
dim the colors
flashing across
closed eyes
