The Sands of Acquiescence
Under a hostile sun,
beating down wave
after wave of heat.
He shifts along,
across the desert.
Collapsing,
when he has nothing left.
He'll rise,
only to collapse again.
The sun
as relentless,
as it is bright.
The sky never changes,
not for him.
It's like an endless sea
of blue.
When darkness does descend.
Heat makes way,
for a merciless chill,
that spares nothing.
Devouring insects and lizards,
at whatever chance he has.
Sucking dry a cactus
ripped apart with his hands.
Draining whatever substance,
that slowly drips for him.
Sand engulfs his feet,
with every step he takes.
Searing his bare skin,
the strain etched
across his sun-burned face.
The clothing that remains
on him, sticks to his skin.
With sweat,
sorrow and tears.
The years he knows
nothing.
Time has forgotten him,
only pain remains.
Lips cracked
eye-sight blurred
an island appears before him
he dismisses the sight,
He's seen it before
only to crush his spirit,
why give it
the satisfaction?
He has come to this,
alone,
and barren of hope.
Even he does not care,
whether or not it's real..
He'd rather walk on,
to his death.
Than prolong his suffering.
This is his destiny
until death takes him.
Or when,
he'll finally be forgiven
May death descend,
when the darkness sets in.

Great work here Evan. Ive always enjoyed the intellect that can be seen behind your words and their arrangement in a piece.

Thanks Artkytech, it's a little more than what I used to write.. so long as I stay humble, I'll improve.

Hope you're quick enough to not get hit in the head too much, be a shame to waste such a mind. ;)

I truly like your work, Evan. The easy flow & rhythm. The artfully woven words, phrasing & imagery. I enjoyed this piece very much! Well done! :)

Thanks Carlene, :-) You may enjoy the reading I did of it too, you'll hear my voice and feel the emotions to how I write the words. Thanks again Carlene, thrilled you enjoyed my work!

Hey Evan, the reading is great. Your voice reminds me somewhat of an Aussie actor's. Not sure who, although, it may be Jack Thompson. Well done! :)

I like the combination of your voice with the roughness of this poem. Good work!

I enjoyed the middle part of this the most..it feels more emotional and when you reached that pat in the reading I felt it more.. this was a heavy piece that pulls the reader or me into this world of pain... making me feel it all.. thanks for sharing this was a pleasure to read an also hear..
