It is

the off switch
to these thoughts
that never stop
but turn over and over
until they're unrecognizable
like the word you repeat
that no longer holds a meaning
but you know it meant something once

the numb that you need
to rush through you
when feeling is much too
OVERWHELMING
and you don't have the strength
to face it down

So you press pause
and drown in euphoria

You concentrate on
the acceptance
of nothing
being judged
and everyone being open
and everything being profound

Of your heartbeat
pounding
and your breath
filling your lungs
of the heat rising
as the waves take over
and the sounds around you
become the background
to this surreal experience
where time stands still
and nothing matters
but joy
and friends
and touch
and the high

You can feel later
you have time for the pain another day

You just need
NEED
escape

need a pause

need an off button



for another day
and another day


until it's been a year...

and the pain is still there...
