Training Camp

hmmmm
Yuletide
perhaps this was
the turn
where I unraveled
lost contact
with the true-and-tried
when social discomfort
first ran along
nerves on my spine
when inside began
it`s discordant ride
through The Established
and it`s
measurements of Time

I wasnt born
from the
Body of Christ
yet I understood
the selfless undercurrent
American conventional wisdom implied
I got up early Sunday morn
to watch Davey and Goliath
though eerily repelled
by it`s alien tinged dogma,
the doggy I liked,
and the lesson`s
intrinsic moral values
I easily identified

So, as a child
I walked a Christian landscape
with no gripe
although I was genetically
trapped outside
I felt, if the chips were down,
I`d be treated alright

I cant quite pinpoint
when the glitter and lights
changed from delightful
to commercial
as filtered through
my minds eye
I was relatively young
perhaps an early teen
when I realized
behind the Joy
was a vicious
money making machine

I saw all around me
people spending
not-fully-grown green
for frivolous things
only once-a-year seen,
and although I
can reason
inflateable 12 foot snowmen
have their season
I gotta figure
24-7 Media Bombardment
has something to do
with generating the
illusion of "need"

perhaps such an
unsensible purchase
is a consumers primal scream
a way to rage outside
strict expectations
strangling working stiff peeps
by detached investors
and captains of industry

from these few steps back
its unbearably frustrating
to realize the elite
control every angle
of material dreams
it starts at Thanksgiving
we buy their
Steroid pumped Turkey`s
prep for Christmas overindulgence
our psychological skids greased
as we cast away composure
and voraciously over-eat
