The lost look
I look deep into his eyes and speak the three words that I feel from within.
I choke back tears as he begins to speak for the response was certain, the same every time.
"I can't say that I love you truly because I don't know if I do."
My heart drops and I lose the words he continues to speak.
He looks into my eyes but doesn't realize that he is only looking at an empty shell.
My heart dies down as my body begins to shake but I continue to choke back tears.
He grips my shoulders, the warm touch I have come to love and long for, and I wait.
I hope for the embrace but he turns and walks away, taking my broken heart along with him.
My eyes follow and remain with the same lost look, the look of a soul shattered and heart stolen.
I choke back tears as he begins to speak for the response was certain, the same every time.
