Winter Evening -- Walk Around Frame Lake

There’s a blanket of snow on the lake and beyond,
The city is glowing as the twilight yawns.
The city lights shine like glittering coals.
The sky is powder blue and dusky rose
Sinking into darkness of the sun’s repose.

The moon is rising away over there,
Bringing the night from her daytime lair.

A steep granite point is the prow of a ship
with the silver moon sailing over it.
The moon is framed by two spruces, the masts of the ship,
crossed with two spars of cloud by the moon brightly lit.
Away on a voyage, their moorings they slip.

Waves of snow on a hill rising high
turn to waves of cloud in the moonlit sky.

Now the stars are sparkling above,
The canopy for a night of love,
Followed by sleep till the sun does rise
Bringing daylight back to lover’s eyes
With loving looks and happy sighs.

Then the night returns to her keep.
On a bright winter’s day, there she’ll retreat.
