Fate(Short Story 6)
Fate, it's not a myth like most suspect, in fact Fate is alive. Fate lives through three women. We know them as the Fates. They know the future, past, and present of the world. If they were together it would destroy life as we know it.
Those who know about the Fates write to the one that they think can help them. Some want to know their past, others want to know their future, then there were the smart ones who wanted to know their present. I am one of the latter.
My letter came in the mail yesterday. I have deeply afraid to open it. I had to open it though; I decided to do it now.
My letter said:
James,
Thank you for writing. You have a present unlike any other. This is why I need to meet you in person to tell you it. I should be knocking on the door as you finish this letter on the day after it arrived.
Present.
The doorbell rang. I turned and saw an woman that looked like she was in her early thirties at my door. I opened it and welcomed her in.
She had blonde hair and a warming smile, "James, your fate is unlike any other. You are not who you think you are. I cannot tell you exactly what your present is for I do not know about your past or future. You must find these out for yourself. I cannot be around my sisters," She explained.
Then she walked out the door.
I quickly wrote to the other Fates and their replies were the same. I met them both at a park.
When they read my fate, their eyes grew large and said that my past and future were clouded. They knew one thing though. I was not an ordinary human.
Future took out her phone that was covered in Justin Bieber stickers and called Present. They had to meet to tell me my full fate. Past took out a cigarette and and took a drag.
Past looked at her pocket watch and said, "I hope she hurries, I'm not getting any younger."
Future looked at her and said, "Well you aren't exactly getting older. You will always look like you are in your fifties. I am stuck here looking like I am thirteen."
Before future could respond I separated both, "Hold it you two, don't fight. Maybe this is what they said about the Fates being together. They'll destroy the world in a fight.
Present arrived and I asked, "What is my fate?"
Their eyes grew large and they all spoke at the same time, "You are the Guardian of Fate. You will protect us from harm and each other."
Then they started to fight again. I told them to break it up.
I now understood what they meant. I told them all to go their separate ways. I followed Present. I would travel between the three year round and guard them. I am the Guardian of Fate.
