Running Scared
I'm angry,
angry at my penchant to flee
forever running scared,
afraid to face life
I'm itching to live,
to fuck responsibility and security,
to give in to life's goading,
go out there
and enjoy all it has to offer
To be what I want to be
do what I want to do,
to live for me
spreading my wings
for all the world to see
To stop letting life get me down,
take a reign check
and leap unwarily
into a life
lacking in undue anxiety
A life unfamiliar with limits
the sky only a milestone
in a long walk to anything
and everything.

liked this scribe for the sheer reason how the bitter moods-experience in s1 n s2 gets transformed into a full-fledged optimism ..like a shimmering ray of hope , the last three stanzas shine undoubtedly.
I loved the expressions esp. reign check, leap unwarily, undue anxiety n life unfamiliar with limits...though there is an overdosed "un" prefix, which I too suffer in most of my writes "un"avoidably. Had seen among many of my favourite poets too here. but then, no other effective way I hope:)
I see you as a very promising young poet shaping up, Duncan! Will read you more.

For any good optimistic piece you need to have a decent amount of contrast.
Haha, I didn't even notice the overuse of "un-", usually I worry about my overuse of alliteration. Most of my recent pieces have been quite rushed so I haven't gotten around to tidying them up.
