Lemon Tree
I have a lemon tree with two lemons.
They live at the end of my hall.
They keep each other company,
and I’ve named them Margaret and Paul.
We have become a peculiar family,
and that is plain to see.
I would never squeeze them,
but they get nervous when I make tea.
I wish they would have a brother or sister.
and I guess all good things come in time.
Maybe we could consider adoption
perhaps a grapefruit or lime.
Some people would say this is silly,
but one thing's certain to me,
Family is found in strange shapes and places,
even in a lemon tree.
