Greed
Once upon a time in a faraway land there lived a queen. The king had passed away unfortunately and left his kingdom to his wife, Victoria. When he died, she made a promise to her kingdom, saying that if she chose greed for the contentment of herself over the kingdom's happiness, they had permission to kill her, or to banish her from her own kingdom.
When she made this promise, she should've been sure. But she wasn't.
Victoria obviously had a daughter, the next in line for the throne. Her name was Sienna. Victoria and her kingdom cherished and nurtured her daughter very much, she was precious to them all.
One day Victoria went out to pick some daisy's by the river. The water was crystal clear, and the sun made the water sparkle. Victoria was by herself, when a strange man came up behind her and started talking. "Give me a living person, great or small, short or tall, beautiful or ugly. A beating heart included, with living flesh and bones. I will pay you back 3000 dollars."
Victoria thought about this carefully."No. I cherish my kingdom, and my daughter. Please, just go, and ask someone else, far away from here."
The next day was brilliantly sunny, and there were no clouds in the sky, and when Victoria went to pick flowers, the same man came up to her and asked again."Give me someone close to you. They come with a beating heart and living flesh and bones. I will pay you 10,000 dollars." Victoria though hard again about his deal, but once again declined."No. I will not give up a loved one for some notes of paper. Go back to your home, and do not return to me."
The next day was rainy, stormy and miserable. The river was grey, and mist held over the river. But still Victoria kept up her spirits, and picked more daisy's by the water. The man came up to her once again. "Give me your daughter, for she is alive, made of flesh and bones. Her heart is beating and she will be of good use around the home. Give up Sienna to me. For 30,000 dollars.
Victoria thought hard, and came to her final conclusion. "Alright, that seems fair. I will give up the life of a loved one, send her away for years. That seems like a reasonable amount of money." Tears fell from Victoria, as she lay her flowers onto the ground. "Please look after her." She cried as she shook the man's hand.
The following day, Sienna was sent away, with the excuse that she was picking berries for a poor family. She would be sheltered, fed and looked after. Victoria hoped that Sienna would be happy.
Everything seemed to be going well, not all the 30,000 dollars had arrived yet, but Victoria was expecting it soon. Unfortunately, her secret had gotten to the kingdom before her money did.
She and Sienna were banished from the kingdom, never to return for any reason.
She broke her promise. She had been tested, and she failed her kingdom.
She never did receive her money.
When she made this promise, she should've been sure. But she wasn't.
