Prayers for a Guardian Angel
The crescent moon
Out in the cold
Seen from my room
Its silvery sphere
I close my eyes
And then I pray
To the silent glittery moon
Hoping that she is there
My guardian angel
Angel of God
My Guardian Dear
To whom His Love
Entrust me here
Listen to my silent plea
Keep daddy out tonight
He have been hurting me
Hitting me while he
Do vigorous stuff
In his shorts
Angel of God hear me
Don’t let him near me
I hear his angry bellows
In the kitchen downstairs
And my mommy’s scream
He is hitting her again
Maybe the cardinal visited her
And he is jealous
But what is a cardinal
Why is he visiting my mom
Guard me my Angel
Guide me my guardian
Hold me in your loving arms
Keep me safely through this night
I have faith in your holy might
I hear the crash of breaking glass
The front door banging shut
He has gone out
Angel of God, I am safe now
Be with me throughout the night
Amen.
Little Grace sleeps at last
At age eight
Fists clutching her blanket
Tears drying on her cheeks
Out in the cold

A very heartfelt poem, I can tell. It was tender, sad in some ways, and quite sweet in others! You really bared you soul for this, and it made the poem very honest and real. It could not have been an easy moment in your life to look back on, but I am glad you decided to share it in this way! Sometimes poetry can be the best way to exorcise the demons of ones past... with the aid of angels.

Words, help us , if for the moment to dig out those things that fester within our skin.
Helping to remove the bad things that might linger and destroy us for a lifetime. Our words are the only tool, a poet, uses to root out the pain.

Dear dear Glynis...so sensitive and kind. Yes, those were hard years...but it moulded me to what I am...maybe kinder and more accepting....thanks and hugs....

Some people become jaded, withdrawn, angry, or sullen, and you seem to have taken your victimization and turned it into a victory of sensitivity, a triumph. Being listened to is the final refuge, and you have learned to express yourself. Good for you, Grace.
