my name is heroin

Hello everyone, my name is heroin
Most people think they can dodge my arrows and,
Everyone ends up in the same place at once,
Together united bound, shackled and cuffed.
I am here to speak because of a stigma against me,
These rumors and lies, self esteem feels so empty,
I never came looking, I never went out,
They came here to me, with money and shout,
Understanding that the first could set fire to their soul,
With an extinguisher that not even god can hold,
That will evacuate their hearts, leaving nothing but silt
Leaving only memories of a life they once built,
You are taught to fear me, yet I’m worn across hearts,
To remember the people and keep them close to your thoughts.
But why if I am as terrible as you say, wear me on such an important day,
I am sought out, cut down and mended each way,
For someone to use me, abuse me and then say,
That the reasons in which life is empty, all my fault no one else but me,
Is it because of a lack of self control, you hand over to me and ask me to hold,
And even if I try and say no, by making your stomach sick and your hands cold,
You persist and continue and force me to hold,
The key to your happiness, the key to your soul.
But I am held responsible as you lay there in pain,
after using me time and time again.
Knowing that only suffering will come, from using me daily starting out as just fun,
You tell me you hate me you tell me you wish,
That you never took that famous first hit,
But then you lie cheat and steal your way to me,
I guess you cant see the things that I see,
I never asked to be famous, I never wanted this,
The hills and the wind are the things that I miss,
For freedom is something in which both long,
A prisoner to each other, dancing to the same song.
So before you hang the noose on my head,
Take a look at yourself instead,
Because my name is heroin and that’s all I’ll ever be,
You have a choice
Will it be with, or without me.
