Good to be back?
Seven days away
and now the streets
contain ogres once more.
One monster pisses against the wall
of an alley way
as parents walk by
with their kids.
I don't know
how so many people
came to limp.
Lucky for me
I'm reading Miller
and the rest can go
do whatever
it does with itself.
I try not to imagine much
just in case
the lines on their faces
are anything
to go by.

I've read many of your poems now, but the images and brevity in this one had the best effect.
I think ogres is too nice a word, but again, great image. Nicely observed and described. Fucking ogres everywhere.

There's something almost apocalyptic about this poem, which makes it a great satire of your surroundings. The narrator is like an undercover human in a world full of zombies, or a priest investigating a sordid Roman bathhouse. I like the Miller reference too. It feels like a long time since you last name dropped an author to convey the distance between your narrator and his world. Thanks for the read.
