I am
Please...see me for who I am;
I am nothing more than this.
Not gold, not silver; or diamonds and pearls;
I am just me...that's all.
I could be anything you want me to be;
I could be the man of your dreams.
The knight in shinning armor;
A modern day Robbin Hood.
If you see none of this now...
I am not who you think I am.
I can't be what you want,
And who I really am.
So...if you want/need me to be your only;
You only have to do is see me;
I can only be me at one time.
If you can't see anything that I have been all of my life;
Maybe, just maybe you need to find someone else.
I am nothing more than this.
Not gold, not silver; or diamonds and pearls;
I am just me...that's all.
I could be anything you want me to be;
I could be the man of your dreams.

GBM: If only she would open her eyes. She would see a sacred soul. A man who lives to please others. A man who gives love to all those he meets. I see you as that man. If she does not, then she deserves less. :)

Some one who can't see what the other person is must be emotionally blind.Its a sign of ungratefulnes when a person wants more than the all that is been given.well put Atro.

I don't think anyone ever sees us for who and what we really are because they cannot. They just make assumptions and we try to meet those assumptions or run away from them never really discovering the truth. I think what you are is more precious than you or anyone else could ever imagine. Maybe when everyone sees this in themselves the world will be a better place.

You certainly have gifted poetical skills. But I sense a kind of confusion in your poem, maybe intentional, to fit in with the poem's theme, prehaps unintentional: In the second stanza you say: "I could be anything you want me to be." Then in the next stanza you note: "I can't be what you want." Does this indicate confusion in your very self, for their is confusion in everyone's self, which is why we wear a mask of various sorts or possess what Carl Jung called "the Shadow Side." You have an excellent poem in the making here, but, to me, you need to be a bit more subtle and clarify the distinctions within your self more realistically. Finally the "just maybe you need to find someone else" could make you sound like an elitist or even lacking in compassion, which you are not (partly because she doesn't understand the complexity, wholism of you.) Is there really love between you both? The poem doesn't say. In fact it "implies" the opposite. But no one can "know" another (which is why they are called "the other, so says Sartre). What's wrong with that, it adds to the mystery of who we are?

People will only see the "you" that you want them to see, unless they care enough to look further. If they do look to see the "real you," then they should care enough to stay with you and not care who or what you are. I can relate because of experience right now... but they will only see the "real you" if you allow them to.

This is a good poem. But I feel that the opening is the strongest part. The rest of the poem is good, but I don't think it has the drives that the first stanza does. I hope people are able to see you for you. Keep being you.
