Facets of The Self

- Facets of The Self -
An Inward Meditation

Part One – Queen of Horror

In a land of long ago, when history was young,
A castle in a distant land echoed with screams!
Of certain pitch and melody, uniquely rendered,
So that they produced a kind of haunting song…
Which swam forth from that domain in streams.
The land was broken, the elder pacts sundered.
Because of loneliness, of sorrow and of wrath…
From the heart of a queen: whose crown faded.
I was that queen, and my madness was as fire!
The skulls of the fallen stood firm upon a path…
Which led to my palace, where devils paraded.
I longed for angels, but was prisoner to desire!
Sometimes we can endure too much of horror,
That it breaks the will, forcing out a great roar.

Part Two – Kindred of Hell

The skulls on the path spoke of ancient times…
And the devils recalled the beauty of the stars!
The palace was shaken, the castle torn in two.
All that was caused, by memories, in rhymes…
Of magical power that breaks or cruelly mars.
Yet which also reveals salvation come so true!
Only the desperate or the mad seek such way,
And I was both, whilst being above all labels…
Kindred of Hell yet with a spirit born of glory!
I found the darkest truth, at the close of a day,
When broke all the knightly armors and tables.
The devils howled, and their claws were gory!
Chaos reigned, as I descended into the deeps,
Where all is as night where the cold fire keeps.

Part Three – Goddess of Blood

The pentacle at the gate allowed me passage…
And the horned serpent fled from my glancing.
I had come this way before so all was familiar!
The elder sign I traced in the air, did presage…
So long a journey that it seemed I was dancing.
Ancient thoughts did, within my breast, so stir!
The serpent folk knew me and knew sorrow…
And those who dwelt in dust awakened to see.
My blood was awakened from ageless dream,
For I bore a light, bright as the warm morrow!
The goddess had returned and I was truly she.
Male and female, androgynous without seams!
The divine hermaphrodite, the one forbidden…
By those pious fools who are truly guilt-ridden.

Part Four – Divine Hermaphrodite

In the dark of the underworld, I had become…
What once I was, when I dwelt in the heavens.
I am this still, for the soul is immortally endless!
The past is never forgotten if recalled by one…
And I must bear, even memory that condemns,
Even as I long to laugh free from cold distress!
But I am strong, and so I bear time’s burden…
With grace born of woman and man’s strength.
This I learned in my days of exile in first dawn!
My heart is not heavy, and must never harden,
And so I look for peace, so finding it at length.
I have been master, mistress and also a pawn!
Though vanquished, I am not defeated; I rise…
The past is gone, but still it calls, with firm ties.

Part Five – Sacred Resurrection

Transformed, I emerged from the dark wiser…
For wisdom comes to us even in the darkness.
The devils are gone, the skulls no longer there!
No castle or palace exists, towering as a pyre,
For instead of all that, I behold lovely gardens.
No more screams echo forth, to haunt this air!
I know the terrors are still to be seen in reality,
But if I can dream just a while longer, I must…
Lest the nightmares come nigh, so unrelenting!
Perhaps this sacred resurrection is not fantasy,
And so in the gardens’ beauty I shall put trust.
I can hear a song that is joyful, not lamenting…
But I see not the one who sings it so perfectly!
I must have faith, as if the song were a divinity.
