Short Story Poem: "Love You"

*Not a true story, but based on a true story


I never thought of myself as the type to get emotionally involved
But I guess through the course of time my heart must’ve evolved
As a youth, I was taught to keep my feelings inside
And to keep it that way until the day that I died
So that's the way that I chose to live my life
Might make a baby mama but never make a wife
Never thought I'd find a girl
Who could change my view of the world
But one day I happened to meet Aria
Sexy brown skin with a quiet demeanor
We started talking and doing things that couples do
Had her mind gone, thinking that she's my only boo
She didn’t know I was messing with different girls all over town
If she found out I knew some shit would go down
That was two years ago and Aria and I still see each other
Can’t put my finger on it but there was something different about her
She wasn’t the type of girl to give it up easy
But at the same time found different ways to please me
And I forgot to mention she moved in with a nigga
I had no problem with it because she was down for a nigga
That’s the point in my life when I started to calm down
But every now and then I snuck around with Danyelle across town
One day Aria received a call from an old girlfriend
This is when the drama started to begin
They made plans so they could go out and catch up
And her friend would come through to pick her up
The time right now is about 7:04
Then along came a loud knock at my door
I looked through the peephole and said "What the hell!!"
I never thought her old friend would be Danyelle
Aria came to door and opened it to see
Danyelle looked up and saw her with me
She just stood there and smiled and said "what a surprise"
Asked Aria if she was ready then they both hopped in her ride
And I guess that’s where the story ends
Aria and Danyelle fought and are no longer friends
Aria came home and told me she was moving back in with her mother
At that moment I realized that I love her
But I never told her
On those cold nights when I would hold her
We both falling asleep while her head is on my shoulder
I apologize
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
To that moment when you were mine
Leave them girls alone and love you the right way
And care less about what anyone else has to say
You turned this boy into a man and what did I do?
Messed around and never told you that I loved you....
