Dragging My Gloves to the Bosom
I am a result of a few punches too many,
both ways.
I still wear my faded black gloves
heavily downed with new-grown tolerances
and stone-old embedded regret.
From years of soaking up other's anger and
flurrying mine in any direction
I now know that it's not that I don't feel pain
it's just that I've developed a different understanding.
Never had stability for too long,
something to settle into, dig my toes in the sand
and wiggle them around in contentment
instead I travel, subconscious and embolic
as a thorn in life's side to an ever-nearing bosom.
All these decorated war heros;
pawns in games of Troy-horse oppressions
that followed routines and squared their heads weekly
will join me in the ever-nearing -
and I'll march; we are all marching
to the penetrating drums of fate and circumstance
and we'll all be welcomed, regardless
of skin, history, future plans, hopes and wealth
into the gloryless cools of death's busy bosom.

A couple of small nits: doesn't "embedded" (verse one) begin with an "e" as opposed to an "i"?
In L1 of verse two "others" should have an apostrophe after it.
This is a brilliant confessional poem. L1 and 2 are among the more subtle allusions to self-harm I've read.
The way you convey death towards the end of the poem is pitiless and darkly beautiful. I love poems like these, which explore The Meaning of It All through an individual experience. Thanks for the read.

I made them mistakes especially for you to correct, Jack. Haha.
It's actually annoying that I do that often these days. Never think to check it thoroughly first, slightly amateur I suppose.
I've never committed self harm purposely, but I've had many 'accidents' that should of been avoided.

Deep respect. This is superlative writing.
I had read in a forum about your profession.
I believe it rather was your profession.
It had caught my attention then.
Being on the receiving end of misguided macho
behaviour all my life, I found it both amusing
and surprising.
And now I see this. This webpage is more like
a confession box where you have poured it all.
Like a message in a bottle.
The second line redefined 'depth' for me.
I love the wordplay and choice of adjectives.
Very apt, I must say.
The third stanza shows your craft. Absoultely beautiful
imagery there. Two poems and I have begin to see a man.
Who feels.
The last stanza is a high point. It builds on the early
notes into a frenzied cresecendo and drops the reader at
a strange and comfortable place.
'Busy bosom' made me guffaw. Immaculate.
You have got yourself a fan, poet.
Will love to hear about some old stories.

I wouldn't use the word profession, but maybe hobby or a game of sadistic and masochistic pleasure.
Most people who get around(especially male) will be on the relieving end of someone's macho idiotic display. Personally I despise bullies, though I have been a bastard.
It is a confession of sorts, and an attempt to redeem my existence.

this is a DEEP Drop. And I mean that as in its understanding and in its conveyance of environs and such. The sensitivity is real subtle. That's what I like most about it. This piece levels playing fields, slaying fields on alotta different levels. I suspect his will be a Last Man, a last person standing piece for awhile.

Gloryless cools just means a cold place void of glory, no glory in death. It's not an actual phrase or anything.
