When Our Dreams Have Died

Land of opportunity
A chance to thrive
A loving community
That's full of drive
Where dreams take shape
And hard work pays
Once America was great
Unique in many ways
Brother helping brother
With a common goal
Success of each other
Is success of the whole
Happiness and success
At our fingertips
But now nevertheless
Our dreams have slipped
Tears have moistened
Our tear filled eyes
We have been poisoned
By the repeated lies
Anger and rage
Have filled our minds
A war has been waged
Destroying us by design
Friends against friends
If we don't think the same
Our fingers extend
As we place the blame
With corporate greed
We work to survive
We bleed and bleed
Just to barely get by
We feed the machine
That feeds on the grift
We're caught in between
This democracy shift
Leaders with impunity
Our hope fades away
This land of opportunity
Where dreams have decayed
No longer do we live
This is our last goodbye
There's nothing left to give
When our dreams have died
