Lost...Somewhere in Time
Those late night tunes can get us lost
Somewhere in time
When the mind wanders into some forgotten places
Reliving moments briefly
As if they were just yesterday
Them lyrics can turn back the clock
And unlock memories
The details are ghostly caresses on the mind’s eye
Longing for just tiny piece
Just to ease the ache
The melodies can surge an energy
A restless fantasy revived
When “could have beens” burn like whiskey straight up
Going down smooth
To make the yearning numb
These songs can take you for a ride
Like a rollercoaster
To days of youth unbuckled with hands up in the air
The thrill of it all
It was the best feeling back then
When you take a deep dive
Into the music that drives you there
Remember today and tomorrow will never leave you behind
They'll be waiting for you
With open arms whenever you get lost

This reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour. There are things that connect spirits beyond the now - be they a person, place, or thing such as a song.

I swear there are songs that flash me back to a moment, a memory, and it's not always bad.
Like the whiskey you write of, it can burn going down. But it can also be mellow.

Music is that time portal. I mean we could relive those little moments in our lives, some good (I hope mostly all good) and some that burn like whiskey (or your preferred hard liquor).

Excellence. The analogies of the 2nd and 3rd stanzas really resonate with me, as well as reliving childhood memories of rollercoasters. This encapsulates and captures an overall nostalgia that many my age may perhaps be trying to relieve, lol. I'm 40 soon, so yeah. Maybe that's why I connect with this so much. Anyway, you do a good job of direction and flow and elaborate/assimilate a solid piece here. Break down or construct, it's good. Thanks for sharing!

I think as we get older we look back at those memories with more fondness and reflection and music connects us to those times. You're right, it is nostalgia, it's just that part of us that long for youth for just a bit.
