Priestesses
Guardians of the flame,
sacred vows of purity,
to silent lives constrained.
Chaste in ancient Greece,
virgins bound by duty's chain,
faithful to the peace.
Under the temple's gaze,
Vestal's hearts in shadows dwell,
freedom's distant haze.
Solemn and restrained
lives of the Vestal Virgins
bound by their sacred duties
and so imposed virginity.

Reminder of The Pleiades, the 7 daughters of Atlas being pursued by Orion but they could never be caught....Zeus , pitying them, placed them in heaven as stars....the 7th became invisible except for viewers with keen eyesight,. HHKKLLLLLL

Yes, I agree. I need to go back and brush up on my old studies in Mythology. Today, I will think of Sisyphus and keep trying to push the ROCK up the hill...shall we push together? HKL

Short, sharp, and a bit sad. It captures that feeling of being trapped by tradition, even if it's a 'sacred' one. You get the sense of quiet longing, which is powerful in just a few lines.
