The NAO Amalgamate Inc. chapter1 part 1

The brown brick building at 1015 Chambers Street was not as easy to find as everyone may have thought. It was surrounded by other buildings that look identical to it. The only stand out feature that it had going for it was a small porcelain vase, off to the right, by the door way had one purple tulip in it.

Before entering the obscure building. Kat made sure to touch up her (tourmaline) red lipstick. Her hair was behaving itself and not puffing out due to the hot, humid day New York was having at the moment.

She was supposed to be on the twelfth floor, room 322. She received a hired notice from the advertisement looking for writers. She did not think that she would be chosen since she did not have a lot a writing credentials under her belt. Nevertheless, she was hired.

Kat proceeded to go inside the building with the tulip at its front door. The feeling she was getting was of going to the orthodontist. It’s been quite some time since she had her braces removed, but you never forget the feeling you get when you go to a doctor’s office of any kind.

The elevator was reminiscent of the sixties. With the bronze button to push. It was slightly updated, though. There was a wall panel where you could locate where the elevator was.

She did not have long to wait. The door opened and a slender woman stormed out with a red headed man following on her heels. It looked as if they were trying their best to get out of there. Kat just barely stepped aside to they would not plow into her as they left.

At this point she should feel a bit nervous but for some odd reason her nerves were steady. The ride up was too fast for her liking. Her ears popped once it stopped on the twelfth floor. There were two doors. One on her left and the other on the right. Right before her the sign NOB with and arrow pointed to her right and another sign saying Arts and crafts workshop supplier with and arrow pointing to the left.

She was happy that she wore casual shoes so no one could hear her clicking down the linoleum floors. She knocked and the door was opened by a stocky blond woman with too much flowery perfume on.

“You must be who the boss is waiting for. Go in and take a seat. The others will be here shortly. I will be back in a minute. I forgot to pick up some coffee filters on the way in.” she said as she let Kat in and she walked out.

“Oh, you can take off the shades. The place is dimly lit. Mr. Collinson wanted it that way so he would not get migraines.” Kat immediately thought she had to watch what she said or did around that woman. She tells too much information about people to complete strangers.

Kat nodded and went inside. She was not ready to take her shades off yet. She sat in the far left corner of the waiting room. It gave her the perfect view of who came into the front door.

The waiting room was small. It held four chairs and a small table in the center. There was a reprint painting on the wall above the secretary’s desk. The walls needed a touch-up from what she gathered from her chair leaning back against it. The area rug under the table was so thin it should be called a sheet.

The door swung open and three people entered in full fledge conversation, not noticing that there was someone else in the room.

“Charlie, you better behave yourself. Do not try to get your way with the next writer.”

“Ella, why are you acting as if you’re my mother? I will do as I damn well please, and if the other writer is up for a world-class get-together. I aim to please.” He said with a smile.

“Yuck.” The third female said.

“You’re just upset that I did not turn my sights on you.”

“Thank goodness.”

“Really?” He said with a knowing smirk.

It amazed Kat how the three of them were oblivious to her. The secretary opened the door, almost hitting the one called Ella with it. Luckily, she moved out of the way.

“I am so sorry that I was not here to meet you all. Oh did you meet the new writer.”

The three of them looked at each other then turned around to see Kat sitting there with her legs crossed and shades on looking back at them.

“You must be joking?” Charlie said
