The Mother He Loved
Born and raised under her wings
Protection and care, has always been
Everything his mother said he believed
Mother encouraged him, she was often pleased
A few times, he would get himself into a jam
She would always solve it, lend him a hand
As he grew older, he had a successful career
Living across the country, he wasn't so near
One day he received a call, it was from his Aunt
He was told to come back home, she began to rant
She told him that his mother is hospitalized and she's very sick
He took the next flight out, losing his job was a risk
When he arrived, he couldn't believe what he saw
Wires and tubes throughout, he kneeled onto the floor
He took her limp hand, looked at her and began to prey
He made a promise that he'll never leave her side, until her final day
Sadly, there wasn't much more the doctors could do
The cause of death was being allergic to Honey Roasted Cashews
The ones he sent her as a gift on Christmas Day
He was the cause of her passing away
Sometimes that's the way the cookie (or in this case the cashew) crumbles.

You almost had me cry with this. He sent her something they had no clue she was allergic to.

Yeah I led the reader down an emotional road until the very end. There is some dark, black humor in this at the end. Glad you enjoyed it.

Wow, nice twist. It's probably happened, although perhaps not DBC (Death by Cashews).
Funny, I just ate some cashews. If you don't hear from me again...

Nuclear write, Keith. I knew you'd come back with a vengeance. Didn't see that ending coming. Appreciate you.

An emotional heart wrenching write dear Keith .. but alas, the ending is just so like encircled fate in a bit or more hilarious way may I say.. but on s serious note, as food techies- I work on allergens in good as to be prevented in raw materials to processing lines to the other cross contaminations.. as declare them in label too .. it us sensitive n serious health issue & tolerance to such allergens are plummeting to zero in many .. thanks fir the read & your awareness to such issues shines along with your emotive verses Keith xx

Thanks Uma for your lovely comments here. Yes the ending had some humor to it. Also, maybe her son had a deviant scheme to kill her. No one will never know. Appreciate you.
