words from the down side

for a junkie

  no high is ever
          high enough

not the sky
  not outer space

not passing by heaven
  and handing God a tissue
to wipe a tear from his eye
for what a junkie does to life

a junkies brain consists
       of poisonous spiders
        crawling over electrified
  barbwire

it goes on day after
     self murderous day

addiction shows no respect
to the body,
                soul or
                      mind

doesn't care about
          safe places or
               sacred spaces

classrooms
     become a
       clown show

family dinners
  become WW I
    trench warfare

holidays
  become
   hollow days

but now it
  is forty-three
                   years
                       later

insanity turned
   inside out, upside
           down, washed,
              rinsed and dried
                cleaned with intent
                  and bright shining
purpose

  all brought about
   by one simple plan
      for an undeserving
             ass hole like me

let go and
       let God

I think I will step
 outside and watch
          the miracle of
             a sunset now
