Different Spin
Too many faces are only memories now
Not so clear anymore on all the stories
It seems time closed the door somehow
Running off the fumes of passing glories
Innocent witness being lead to slaughter
Blood laced misery saturates murky water
Silence eats slowly on words never said
Guilt suffocates happiness into despair
It’s been a life sentence inside this head
Unable to blink while sinister eyes stare
Defeated demons will often return again
Same blueprint hidden in a different spin

Author's Note
Late night musing. You never truly stop grieving, you get busy and forget about it sometimes, then when you get a moment of peace, it will return and remind you. Oh, if I disappear for a while it means there was a blizzard and I have no electricity. Appreciate you.

Grief can feel like an endless process. I lost so many loved ones and they're all still in my heart. Sometimes it feels like they're raw scars. "It’s been a life sentence inside this head" > exactly that, love this line 🖤 Deeply moving piece, my friend, I appreciate you.

Hello Damian. This was a wonderfully written piece. Grief can make our minds wonder. Sometimes create magnificent poetry or stories. But in reality if it's someone you loose close to you, it can be torture for a while. We never quite get over it, but we move on. This poem deserves an award.

Just thinking about loved ones who passed, over time it get's hard to remember them. Expecting a snow storm, done had an ice storm, which knocked out the electricity for 30 hours. Just hoping it doesn't happen again. Fingers crossed. Appreciate you.

Grief is a wicked demon, and it returns out of nowhere to steel your piece and joy. Be safe and stay warm my friend.

We face the same lesson over and over again until we learn it. . .and the wound is healed.

I kinda like the fact that grief comes back every so often. It means we still love, and we didn't forget...
I hope you're all prepared & snug for the power outage. Lots of experience with that here! ❄️

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, K. Like how you put a positive spin on this. "It means we still love, and we didn't forget." I like that. I got a kerosene heater, but it makes my kids miserable that there is no wifi. Appreciate you.

Grief on its own is an incredibly heavy weight. When grief & guilt tango in the mind it can absolutely bring us to our knees. You're right, it never stops, we just get distracted from time to time. But I think if the grief ever ended, I would be lost...when the heart is open there's room for emotion. What happens to those emotions if they're easily forgotten? I have a little white fibre optic tree with a cardinal ornament for each loved one I've lost. It comforts me to see them...bright spots of color in all the colorless background. Thank you for sharing this. Grief is a very vulnerable & personal thing.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. Honored to make your RL. I'm glad the tree and cardinals bring you comfort my friend. It's important to have a positive frame of reference. Distractions created by living life does take them off my mind, but what's the hardest is the longer their gone, my minds image isn't as clear as it once was. It's fading like an actual picture. I always enjoy your commentary my friend. Appreciate you.

This is a feeling I'm very familiar with. It's been 34 years since I lost my father. And I remember his words, see his face & his smile...but I can't hear him any more. Like watching your favorite music video when the sound won't work. I miss his voice & especially his laughter. Yeah, details fade & it hurts the heart deeply. Feeling you on this, Damian

Your poem touches me deeply, Damian!
When I'm lost in grief and sometimes also in guilt, I reassure myself that it's impossible to lose someone you love and appreciate. They live on in your heart. When you feel guilty because you regret the words you spoke or didn't speak, forgive yourself from the bottom of your heart and send love into the situation. Then you will find your peace of mind again.
All the best to you and your family! Stay safe!

the whole thing & title & esp. the last two lines .. reminds me of the heaviness of being .. as in Nietzsche's eternal recurrence.. though feels the truth much in Kundera’s mystical touch ever that is the absolute alternative to it .. in that ‘the unbearable lightness of being’ .. thanks for this great poem dear Damian sx
