The Serpent Within
Deep in the heart where shadows creep unseen,
A serpent stirs, its whispers soft yet sly.
Its fangs are envy, poised to sink and bind,
Its coils constrict, a grip that will not cease.
It feeds on dreams, the light it slowly taints,
Until the soul is hollowed, bleak, and bare.
At first, the soul seems whole, unbroken, bare,
But doubt, unspoken, slithers in unseen.
Desires take root, once pure but quickly taint,
As jealous thoughts awaken, sharp and sly.
Their whispers grow, refusing now to cease,
A bitter longing, gnawing at the bind.
It whispers, “Claim what’s yours, break every bind,
Their triumphs mock your losses, leave you bare.”
The serpent’s voice grows louder, will not cease,
Its coils of green enwrap the heart unseen.
What once was love now twists in ways so sly,
A quiet envy turning joy to taint.
The serpent feeds, its appetite a taint,
Its promises deceive, its lies now bind.
It takes and takes, its hunger sharp and sly,
Till nothing’s left but ruins, cold and bare.
Regret grows heavy, yet remains unseen,
The damage wrought a scar that will not cease.
And even as the heart cries out to cease,
The serpent thrives, its poison leaves a taint.
Its whispers echo deep yet stay unseen,
Each coil a mark, each strike a further bind.
The dreams it stole now leave the soul so bare,
Its cunning laughter hissing low and sly.
Beware the serpent’s tongue, its words so sly,
For envy’s grasp, once firm, will never cease.
Its feast of hope will leave your garden bare,
Its venom coursing through a fatal taint.
The ties of love it severs, breaks, and binds,
Till all you were is lost, consumed, unseen.
Unseen yet sly, its poison weaves and taints,
It will not cease until your soul it binds,
And leaves you bare, its victory unseen.
