Covenant of the Stars (A Poem for Progress)

Journey to the Stars

We stand at the edge of a dream,
A whisper carried on the winds of time,
From ancient sands where Abraham walked,
A covenant made beneath endless skies.

He set forth, not knowing the road,
A man with faith as his only map.
He left the known for the promise of more,
A seed of hope in the soil of the vast unknown.

And now, we too are called,
Not to one land, but to all the heavens.
To chart the stars and claim the void,
To carry life where silence reigns.

But the road is hard, the burden steep,
For progress never comes without pain.
We must leave behind what anchors us still,
And face the weight of sacrifice again.

It is not for the faint, this mission we bear,
To preserve our home while seeking the stars.
To steward the Earth with tender hands,
And sow the cosmos with the seeds of life.

We are a people bound to the flame,
Of discovery, of wonder, of relentless will.
We stumble, we falter, yet rise again,
For the heavens beckon, and we must go.

To the young, we pass the torch,
A light to guide, a task to hold.
To build new worlds and carry the spark,
Of our frail humanity into the dark.

This journey demands not one, but all,
Each voice, each heart, each willing hand.
For the cosmos is wide, and the path is long,
But together, we can endure the weight of the call.

We will write our story in the light of stars,
A saga born of Earth’s rich soil.
With each step, we echo the past,
Abraham’s courage alive in our toil.

This is not the end, but a beginning,
A future carved from stone and fire.
The stars await, their silence calls,
And we, like Abraham, answer with desire.

To leave is to love, to love is to give,
To give is to build what cannot be seen.
Our hands will ache, our backs will bend,
But our spirits will soar on what might have been.

Oh humanity, rise to this noble task,
Embrace the heavens, and do not fear.
For though the night is vast and deep,
The stars will guide, and we will persevere.

This is our covenant, our sacred vow,
To preserve the Earth and seed the skies.
To honor the past, yet forge the new,
A promise written in galaxies far and wide.

So step forth, you travelers of light,
With faith as bold as Abraham’s stride.
The journey is hard, the mission steep,
But the stars are calling, and we must leap.

Author's Note
My observation is that American, and maybe the world, is at a turning point. We are moving towards a more technocratic post-democracy world whether we like it or not. I believe it is critical that humanity do some should searching on what our purpose is in this new world and what our shared goals and narratives will be.

This poem offers one possible vision of which we could choose from.
