Image for the poem Cloud Kisses

Cloud Kisses

I lie in the grass, longing;
the early sky illuminating
an awakening earth beneath me;
the world presses upon my skin
in bittersweet memory;
I can still taste the pancakes
leftover from breakfast,
can still see your face
peeking through the clouds
to linger but just a moment;
I pull them towards me
to kiss you good morning
with maple syrup breath
and love still alive
