In The Hereafter
Write a better world with lovely words
Don’t listen to negative songs of sorrow
Empty souls will fall on wicked swords
Hope stirs in a wind that holds tomorrow
Listen to the voice inside this old heart
Still taking comfort in this familiar beat
Believing that our lives could imitate art
There is no surrender we won’t retreat
As long as breath fills these aging lungs
Beneath the tears remains bright laughter
Hate’s never uttered by creative tongues
Bringing about real change in the hereafter

We poets are a different breed for sure & since words hold a lot of power we can we choose how we use them. The idea of writing a better world made me smile. Great piece, my friend, I appreciate you :-)

This was like a gut punch for me. I was struggling with dark days ahead recently & a friend sent me a text out of nowhere saying essentially dark days are when we need artists & writers most...otherwise how will those lacking their vision see beauty again in the darkness? Timing is an amazing thing. Beautiful, Damian
