The Fool and the Beast

The castle bells finally rang
My heart surprisingly sang

He did not lie. He said he will
Come. I knew he would, yet I still

Did not want to really believe
He would stay and not leave

I did not know what he saw in me
I truly expected he would flee

A beast locked up in chains
Waiting release from her pains

Waiting for that lonely kiss
To pull me from my abyss

Could he be the one?
Or will he like the others run.

Like all who came before
Like all who knocked my door

He said he was coming
To see me in thanksgiving

Today could be the day
We either play or I slay

Like I did many in my past
Those who have been aghast

By the scars on my face
And those I did not want to trace

We sat for the final supper
The last words I expected him to utter

Were, “can I hold you in my arms?”
I finally scummed to his charms

When he finally asked to see my jewel
Those were his last, the silly fool

Who does he think I am?
I had a feeling he was a scam

My treasures were my own
Not to be touched or shown

I will return to my castle alone
Until I die or I turn to stone.
