Drive
From the Walternate Universes
Delta – 2.0
I had taken a day off from work
There was a lot to think about, to plan and write
I was home alone with nothing but time
When a familiar portal opened nearby
It was my old amigo, my (W)alter ego
Spinning a set of car keys on his index finger
“Bro” I said as we hugged, he smiled and said…
“Let’s go for a drive”
The portal led to a barnlike garage
The sight in front of me left me speechless and stirred
As I walked around the car the top automatically came down
A cherry red 1955 Thunderbird
“Delta 2.0” he said
“It’s a great balance of the all the worlds I’ve visited”
As he revved the engine he added
“…and this machine, this baby is perfectly clean”
I could see the metropolis in the distance
A scenery of greenery and skyscrapers neatly intertwined
The skies were blue feeling the cool autumn air
And with music blasting the road ahead felt sublime
He’d been travelling between parallel worlds
Going on vacation, or holiday as some say
But when he came upon this alternate universe
He thought of me and how I’d love to see the bay
The drive through the valley was stunning
Rolling hills were green and lush as the car coasted
And upon driving up a mountain we could see
A blue ocean at which then my alternate boasted
“Here, in this universe, there is no war
Every person is given an opportunity to live in peace
Every citizen has a right to thrive and with education
They’ve made it into a stunning masterpiece”
We stood leaning against the hood of the Thunderbird
Beers in hand watching the ships and boats in the bay
Watching a free world that had fulfilled its potential
“It’s perfect” he said “though I’m not trying to sound cliché”
Like old friends we caught up watching the sunset
Until the device on his wrist beeped “it’s time”
And as the portal opened, I took another look
At a world so sublime I didn’t want to leave behind…
