It Seems

It seems everyone knows best
My way or the highway
My politics are the only way
And I won’t accept you feel that way
I understand and you don’t
And so we will be enemies
I cannot accept your point of view
It affects me too much
I’m not a snowflake I’m just right
I’m sensitive, my mental health is fragile
And because of the way I feel
I can’t trust my fellow humans
You were wrong
And to hell with democracy if it doesn’t go my way
Hang on that’s a bit religious hmm
American against American
It’s so sad
Just understand we live in a democracy
A free country , or so our anthem tells us
But believe it you obstinate people
Democracy means we accept the majority decisions
Whether or not we personally agree with them
And life goes on , it always does
Politics and religion should rarely be discussed with friends
Friends and family and humans should transcend these choices
Be relieved that we get to choose
And that every path turns a corner eventually
And doors will shut, and doors will unexpectedly slide open
And some of us will fall over
And some will fly
We will change our directions
And some of us will soften
And some become resolute
This is the way it’s always been
And this is our way forward
I would say
God Bless America
If I believed in your God
But I don’t I just believe in myself and the human race of course
I believe in being kind
I believe in friends and family
Every stone thrown in water creates a ripple
So swim people, splash about
Let the waves take you
Bob up and down
Grab your lifebouy if you need to
And enjoy the moment
Because before long
There will be another door and another corner to navigate
And another ripple will wash over you.
And before long in another four years
We will say again
