Dumb a country down enough and this is what happens.

So here is the challenge. I agree with your writes. How do we write to change people’s minds. Yes, the next two years are set. But there are midterm elections- how can we change people’s minds?  How do we get people to change their votes. In the midterms and in 2028?  Yes, I am assuming that there will be an election, not 100% sure, but it is a historical pattern.

The silver lining in the cloud that is this last election is that now we have a better idea of just how boneheaded the United States of America actually is, as a people.

One of the reasons I became so infatuated with the sonnet is because of its value as a tool of argumentation, and of course poetry and literature, more broadly, also serves.

My dad taught community college English because he wanted to get the word out about the bible, and I have inherited that spirit in regards to morality and literature more broadly since I realize that the bible isn't the end all be all of our shared experience, which increasingly emphasizes video over literature, but I still think literature is the best place to bring order to one's own thinking.

I will be starting in my own sphere of thought and branch out from there.

What else might we do?  

The way words can most change the world for the better is by telling a new basic story.  
The current story seems to revolve around victim-perpetrator-rescuer, or sinner-devilsnake-saviour and all with a good measure of competitive dog-eat-dog and scarcity-scaremongering-sacrifice thrown in.
What would a more healthy story look like? Something maybe to do with collective-bottom-up-power-of-the-people (rather than corporate top-down power), something to do with co-operation (rather than competition), and something to do with tapping into the natural forces of power (rather than imposing technological power through violence). Just a thought.

The likes of Reagan, Pat Buchanan, and Billy Graham have been poisoning the American sociopolitical well for several generations now, and I think it's gotten so bad that it will take as many generations to climb back out, if ever.

Our sadomasochistic majority is totally blind to the practical value of decency as it seems they don't consider the length of most people's emotional memory, where a grudge evicts any lingering happiness.
