The Value of a Penny

There once was a penny, it was shiney and new
Someone threw it into a fountain and their dreams came true
I saw it lying in the street the day I first met you
And suddenly all my gray skies then turned to blue

I carried that penny in my pocket for many years
Through all our trials and all my tears
I held it in my hands when I said my prayers
Then dropped it to the floor when my dreams turned to nightmares

It rolled underneath the bed and has remained out of sight
Until I was vacuuming and found it the other night
I smiled when I saw it, my smile bright
I’ve learned since you not to hold on so tight

So into my pocket that penny will go
To remind me that love doesn’t have to end up on my tear stained pillow
It has to be held onto loosely so it has room to grow
And just like this penny in my pocket, the value of love value depends not on what I do with it later but what I do with it now

I’m sitting on the toilet and for some reason the image of a penny popped into my head and I just woke up to pee so this is what you get. TMI, I know.
And yes, I’m still sitting here.
