October Poems 2024
A poem for each day of the month in which I was born

October 13
when hunger no longer finds pity

my bongo plays Congo,
Palestine is all mine:
the war is a scar, singular
to people whose feeble
outcrying, while dying,
touches earth's perpendicular.

when hunger no longer
finds pity
, the city,
of cruelty, fashions a feast;
when borders, by orders,
jab braces in faces,
what little is left for the least!

young babies with rabies,
hounded and surrounded
by k-9s:  no mother, no breast,
to heed them and feed them,
or hold them and scold them,
or save them from orphan arrest.

poor widows, like shadows,
come crawling and bawling
for spouses, whose douses of war
have left them bereft, when
the smoke, in its choking,
has cleared from the wicked sandbar.

how gory the story
of human inhuman
agenda!
Defender of Light,
make haste, less this waste
should deplete us; o treat us
with mercy that makes all things RIGHT.
