At War with Words
Why do you stare?
I am only words on a page
My inspiration was never yours
Is it that you wish to learn
or do you seek to be entertained?
Whether you are piggybacking
on the coat-tails of love
or fleeing from the hopelessness of hatred
my message will be the same
If I could tell you one thing only
it would be to escape
Now
before the years become stronger
than the bars of the cage
Before fears grow fixed
in thick stone walls
of humdrum grey
Run
from the life
they would make for you
Turn your back
on the prison you are making
for yourself
Readily embrace the drug of freedom
before time steals everything away
until not even your dust remains
And yes
my answer is the same
I am only words
I am only words on a page
My inspiration was never yours
Is it that you wish to learn
or do you seek to be entertained?
Whether you are piggybacking
on the coat-tails of love
or fleeing from the hopelessness of hatred
my message will be the same
If I could tell you one thing only
it would be to escape
Now
before the years become stronger
than the bars of the cage
Before fears grow fixed
in thick stone walls
of humdrum grey
Run
from the life
they would make for you
Turn your back
on the prison you are making
for yourself
Readily embrace the drug of freedom
before time steals everything away
until not even your dust remains
And yes
my answer is the same
I am only words
