Lovely to see birds pair up on a branch as if keeping a date. From the poem, I wonder if the tree was being chopped down when they were on it.

nope it was not being cut at that time... that is my thought only, What if the tree gets cut???

If nesting on the tree they would be homeless.

but it is obvious they will build a nest on a tree....

May no one cut the tree down then.

A raging river torrent came to my mind (global warming/environmental chaos) to cause the felling of that tree. Love can be stormy indeed but birds seem more successful when it comes to life partners.

Why should tree be falled? Yes, birds are more loyal than people...

Trees shouldn't be felled, of course but the raging river torrent could uproot them. 😊
