Under the Same Roof
Tell me if it’s hard for you
to look my way,
to listen to the voice inside my head,
to feel the weight of words untold
when we’re sitting at the dinner table
with silence as our parasite,
while your laughter is so free
with those who barely know your truth.
Does it break your heart
when you see our faces fall awkwardly,
with smiles that don’t reach our eyes,
because we’ll remain outsiders
inside our own lives with strangers
who don’t care about you like we do?
Is it easier to stay distant?
Easier to share moments
with those who don’t know
what lies behind that façade?
Is it easier to talk
with faces who don’t see you at your worst,
than with the ones who love you still,
despite your flaws?
to look my way,
to listen to the voice inside my head,
to feel the weight of words untold
when we’re sitting at the dinner table
with silence as our parasite,
while your laughter is so free
with those who barely know your truth.
Does it break your heart
when you see our faces fall awkwardly,
with smiles that don’t reach our eyes,
because we’ll remain outsiders
inside our own lives with strangers
who don’t care about you like we do?
Is it easier to stay distant?

Is it easier to talk
with faces who don’t see you at your worst,
than with the ones who love you still,
despite your flaws?
