non-culture from the States,
your High School Musicals
and 90210s,
OCs, boy bands, teen flicks.

My brother tells me how
these products lied to us,
sold us the lie, across the pond,
that adolescence was
a wonderland of learning how to be.
As if they ever cared for truth.

And now we know that even they,
the dream children of Hollywood,
were being touched and raped
and cast into the sludge.
The lie itself did not even
support its own servants.

The Wild West of Internet
came far too soon for us, raised now
on pornography and starring in it too,
the spangled mills making meantime
the froth teaching that if you looked
unlike Zac Efron, V Hudgens...

...in life, you're only due the pit.
Take it from one who was young in 2003:
