Bryce

Bryce's favorite color is green. Do not even think of implying that green is a Crayola eight pack color. Bryce knows dozens of shades and hues -hundreds- ranging from emerald to chartreuse, with responses to them ranging from wincing in distaste (deep teal) to taciturn approval (pistachio).

Bryce likes to think he isn't picky. Didn't he microwave a leftover Whopper last night and enjoy it just fine? Yes, he did. But color is fundamental to his wellbeing. Bryce harbors no compunction over breaking up with Lisa. Beautiful, brilliant Lisa who knew her oak furniture and gray bedroom decor pained him- but refused to redecorate. Clearly she was too self absorbed, not to mention declassee, to be a long-term partner. Time to move up and on.

At 42, Bryce has followed his own carefully drawn trajectory. From North Dakota farm boy, to University of Chicago Law School, to partner in his Minneapolis firm. His 160 IQ has made it all easy.

His engagement to Natasha, an illustrator, however, was hard. She had visions for his pristine new high-rise condo with its' sweeping views of the city. First it was the suggestion of a purple sectional, not just purple but grape. Then her longing for sheer lavender curtains in the bedroom, which she gushed would be "romantic". By the time she suggested an aubergine toilet and bathtub, Bryce was rehearsing the right words to excise her from his life. Purple for heaven's sake! A pedestrian color associated with royalty by the common. Ridiculous. Pathetic.

Bryce wants his master bathroom walls to have an undertone somewhere between celery and peridot, his birthstone.  A whisper of lime green maybe, without the garish excitement. He'll know the perfect shade when he's sees it, and he will invest in as many remodels as it takes.

The Roman bathtub, big enough for two, will be the purest, cleanest, pristine white. And is there any reason a few of his lithographs shouldn't adorn the walls in frames the color of the palest manuka honey?
