final consequence

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor
 things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other  creature, shall be able
to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”—Romans 8:38, 39

i won the jostle over
          sleep this morning,
a night-long fight that ended
          with the dawning.
discordant dreams ripped through my
          equilibrium,
ere buoyant hopes bequeathed  me
          true asylum.

                    what lack i yet, when furious
                              stars harbinger
                    dark detriment, where for sweet
                              peace i hunger,
                    if final consequence comes
                              to relieve me
                    of swift nocturnal fingers
                              poised to grieve me?

                                        the stench of death perfumed me
                                                  with his hazing;
                                        into my soul, his lustful
                                                  hunger gazing;
                                        but, yielding not, i watched his
                                                  passions waning
                                        as i, kissed by the dawn, new
                                                  hopes was gaining.
