Hydrangeas
She was a good wife
Married for over 40 years
She was warm, considerate and always willing & able to help someone
Her talent was making beautiful, colorful gardens all around her property
She also donated her time to the arboretum
This year things have been different for her
She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer
Her ability to work on the yard and create beautiful, majestic gardens have been impossible
She's very ill
She can't maneuver like she use to
Her husband doesn't have a green thumb
For the 1st time in over 40 years, their yard looked colorless and dull
Her favorite plant was the Hydrangea
Knowing she couldn't plant them, her husband bought two and placed them in a pot on their deck
He thought it may be easier for her to maintain & take care of the plants
Unfortunately that wasn't the case
The two plants weren't doing well
They weren't growing and they just looked quite frail
She was becoming weaker
Eventually she became bedridden
Her husband knew this day would eventually come
A week later she died
He tried his best to compose himself but he couldn't grasp the fact that she was gone
Family & friends gathered at the wake & funeral
They remembered her for being this lovely, caring individual that gave so much to her community
Shortly after she was buried
The gravestone was planted
Her husband took the two Hydrangeas that were dying
He planted them on each side of the stone
To his amazement, in a weeks time the plants began coming around
Within a few weeks both plants were healthy & strong
One was pink the other was blue
Those were her two favorite colors
Her husband didn't feel alone anymore
He believed that his wife was maintaining these two Hydrangeas in the afterlife
She died, but her memory lives on
