Monsters of...The Id
Some folks do not care for lofty lingo.
Sometimes they swap out verse for talk of trash
like some game of vulgarity bingo
to stir into a pre-traumatic mash
that stokes the collective psychic gutter
where bad and ugly undermine the good;
banging their bums with old bumpkin butter
all for the street cred of the neighborhood
where Thanos wins the finger snap contest
with Armageddon's many-jewelled glove,
never seen by the naive dispossessed
or their dwindling reservoirs of love...
which peer pressure says must be long and strong
to finish off right... with a dose of wrong.

LOL @ your hat tip! I LOVE it ( and the poetic offering ).
This poem is EXACTLY why authenticity is so important.

I was thinking integrity, but perhaps there is some semantic overlap with authenticity to be had. Nevertheless I fear both are in global decline after watching John Oliver's show about India's Modi being a leader synonymous with Putin, Netanyahu, and MAGA.
What will stop people from catering to their worst selves?

I started to write something about acting honorably; however, I felt authentic covered it all, because our true selves, who we really are in love, is authentically real in thought, word, and deed. I felt the political undertones of this and wish I could answer your question.

If one is in the habit of making comparisons then eventually we see the parallels with the individual and the group, even as we see the behavioral cycles askew, when timing is everything.
All this as it hit me that the sickening MAGA mantra of "winning" is defacto rife with dishonor due to the exploitation implicit in all manner of victory within a finite ecology.
Thusly the thoughtful are more heavily burdened than the simple minded, and ever more challenged to see a wholesomely egalitarian way forward ⏩

The main ingredient of their cauldron is fear based on their perception of religious theology. And after years it's bubbling over with the intent to destroy all it touches. And if it can't, then it threatens to.
It's all very sad. Fear and panic are a toxic combination that moves like a shockwave through nations.

What is a great poem?
I must believe they reflect love and justice, or some deep blend of both.
I eagerly await your description.

My dad was a community college English professor, so I grew up in a house with a basement full of used books, which included a few of the old honky classic poets such as Milton, and of course Shakespeare.
That, and some Victorian style community theater after high school really developed an appreciation for the very high quality of all pre-electric English authorship.
They took their sweet time with every single syllable, and had free reign of extraordinary vocabularies since there were far fewer distractions to their thinking routines:)
Compare and contrast the works of Darwin and Dickens to any post modern author and you will see it clearly evident.
