uncovered

The slump of
your shoulders
foreshadows the
way the night softly
covers our feet
like a blanket
filled with holes
in peak winter

I want to cover
you as softly as
this night,
and etch
the sheetprints
of my skin
on yours

I want to shiver
as my hands find
home against
your chest
with midnight’s
sparse remains
forgotten
on
the floor

and I want
to be the breath
that warms
yours
as tomorrow
picks at our
naked edges
