I Am Greed
The whisper of the devil
Tricking you
Tickling you with false comfort
Tempting you with my six deadly sin friends
Lust gluttony and sloth
And wrath envy and pride
I feed humanity with emptiness
False hope and broken dreams
I will destroy your spirit
As I tease you with material consumption
I control your desires
The apple in Eden
I am greed
I am the downfall of empires
All empires
Man worships my false value
Yet values my importance
To feed his ego
I am greed
The more I am cherished
The more I consume time and energy
And humanity
Anything that truly matters
I am irrelevant at judgement day
But I will haunt yours
I am greed

Greed is an addiction for some, something they can't stop even when they know it's bad. I'm sure you could apply it to other things as well...food, women, weightlifting...all the things that seem to bring pleasure and ego, yet don't.

So true..some people are fueled by power and money and having everything still isn't enough..cool gadgets sex money all feed the addiction..many things in life are good..in moderation but when greed consumes all it's a very sick addiction..thank you for the response..appreciate it

“I control your desires” - yes greed will slap a leash around your neck and yank you around every which way. Excellent write, I’ll have to check out the rest of your “I am” series.
