Still The One
Does practice make perfect love?
When we’re two imperfect people no less perfect for each other
Enchantments and apologetics of
All the ways that I try and fail as a lover
Words like paper weights outline my heart in ink
Trying to transcribe all that you mean to me
Interpreting these emotions too deep to convey in all I think
When your beauty is more than just what’s at the surface of all there is to see
More than just the girl of my dreams but the angel of my awakening
Our hearts are knit of a common thread into the fabric of a life long tapestry
We are both of us looms to each others design
As God weaves us into patterns of something divine
Writing our lives one line at a time
You are paradise in the midst of the routine of the daily grind
Looking back at 5 years in the making
As we learn to walk everyday in our vow
I remember the moments when we first started dating
I had no idea then, where we would be now
Intimacy shaped of our joys and our sorrows
From the ways that we joke, laugh, and play
From yesterdays heartbreaks to the hope of our tomorrows
I embark on this journey, choosing you everyday
Inadequate I feel in my words when my actions don’t always line up with what I intend
What are anniversaries but reminders of the value afresh we bestow
You fill the void of my affections as my confidant and best friend
For the ways that we connect that no one else will ever know
Today I commit a renewed sense of all that you are and what I am to you
Putting each other in first place when so many things try to get in the way
Echoing our everlasting sentiments of the altar’s I do
Happy anniversary and happy birthday, to you
Five years gone by and many more to come
I guess we proved the nay sayers wrong
My love for you is a lifetimes promise that will never be undone
But by the grace of God, we’ll never stop singing our song
You’re still the one…
