the Saragossa sea

The Saragossa sea

Once I saw where the horizon ends
a ship ploughing the the sky
White tear on pale blue.
I saw the waiting darkness before
the others did
Look, I said, but it was too late
the ship cast anchor behind a cloud
loading mist for Dogger Bank
Take onboard discarded dreams
to plug the dikes in Amsterdam
Sunflowers on the mythical sea
and red-flying fish
My ship is bound for the Saragossa sea
with a cargo of old sailors
where they will stalk the forgotten
