what's the big deal...
they expressed concern
asked most solicitously...are you okay
Valentine's day came & went
like I give a shit about that
but they were concerned
I was on my own
I've never celebrated, as a matter of fact
I call it a Hallmark holiday...
and they already have enough sitting in the bank
chocolate & flowers...
as Miley so brilliantly observed
I can buy my own
though not remarkably addicted to sweets
and flowers are wasted on me
in truth...I spent a pretty good day
alone
made myself a lovely dinner
had a decent conversation with the cats
not sure how much they actually understood
but they gave every semblance of listening
I felt the love...or at least their appreciation
and any day of the year...
that's good enough for me

For sure Valentine's Day is a silly holiday.
Single or not, why must we restrict ourselves to only one romantic day per year?

My philosophy is to say what I feel all year round. I'm not into helping Hallmark make more money. I never have been. I figured my family knew that but for whatever reason they worried about me so close to the breakup. Just another day.

If it makes you feel better, I haven’t done Valentine’s Day, well, ever. I don’t really buy into the mass produced expressions of what I apparently should be expressing. I like to express stuff because I want to.
However, I can totally get behind the conversations with cats. My boy is still spoiled in that regard.

I suspect I will never get off the hook on getting chocolate for the offspring. I neglected one year & still hear about it...& she was 21 then! I never forget her chocolate now. I just do what I always do...chill & chat with the cats.

I admire that you are comfortable in your own skin. I wish all women were that secure and possessed the knowledge that they are enough as they are and need no embellishment as an affirmation.
While I love every day, I take Valentine's Day to go that extra step by finding something creative to gift. This year my grandson and I found little crystal hearts ( rose quartz, aventurine, crazy lace agate, etc. ) and attached them to funny cards, i.e. - "You ROCK!" etc. When he was little, I would do his handprint in a frame for his parents; however, his hand exceeds mine by inches now, so we find alternative ways to have fun.
Like the handprints and messages we've created throughout the years, these little crystal hearts will last forever. And to me, that's what it's all about.
It's no different than Christmas or any other holiday we celebrate - we just seem to go an extra step on those days.

February 14th is my grandfather's birthday & though he's been gone for years, I celebrate it still in honor of him. A bowl of his favorite ice cream with strawberries. And I'll never be allowed to not get my daughter chocolate covered cherries. But otherwise, meh

Holidays don't get much out of me. Don't celebrate many. Solstice is about being with family for us, and that's about as much as I celebrate. Though I do love costumes on Halloween!

At some point I decided...somebody's gotta love me...why not let it be me? I'm not big on sweets, but I love my cats. 😊 I love you, girl!
