The Proud Politician

he stands in the halls of power
standing tall and proud
he is a shining star
a champion for the people

his smile looks sincere
his gestures are compassionate
a beacon of hope for the future
but all are pretentiously deceptive

a charmer who kisses babies
kiss the hands of the elderly
shed tears when someone dies
is it the loss of votes you regret

he soothes the masses
with his smooth voice
promises to cure all ills
and to build cities of utopia

pretentious politician quit your lies
the people are tired
of your empty nice stories
they can see through your façade

they listen to you and smirk
in utter unbelief
you're just comic relief.
