Despair

 
I lose you in tides of emotions
saying this is wrong
love doesn't care
it chooses you
you don't choose it

it just happens
you can argue with it
but just try and make it leave
love won't go

instead, it increases in intensity
it leaves you wordless in the ache
it doesn't matter if it's reciprocated
it knows only this
it chooses who it wants

the heart's pied piper
playing a melody only you hear
it can lead to many desperate places
leave you feeling vulnerable and bare

it isn't compassionate about your hurt
lingering in the darkness
waiting for the right song
to hit you where it thrums
pangs of desire
for your intended

fate planned it cruelly
sometimes time and distance are against you
you cry out to destiny
take it please I can bear no more

I scream inside the loneliness
emptiness only you can fill
until then I sink in despair
