Papercuts

I see what you see
fourteen carats weaved in her hair
she stepped out of a desire never shared
St Tropez and glitter on her skin

she's the sun; I'm the moon
so beautiful, I think I love her too
pass the leaf and blow the truth
there was never anything I could do

I will never be her
I close my eyes and start to cry
a thousand scars, but I'm alive
you made me wish that I could die

basking in memory; I'm a phantom
a goddess lifting my own anvil
pretend to be strong; I'm such a handful
pet demons feasting on my ransom

a vicious process was this evolution
to forgive is not a simple resolution
it's the price I pay
for things that never go away

I still lay here in the silence
catching butterflies in my palm
a thousand flutters of tiny wings
a thousand papercuts in the calm

I will never be her
with her blue iris mirrors
she knows how to use her magic
I keep praying that I have it

and I will never be her
no, I will never be her
forsake my pride and feel the smirk
brush my fingertips against my worth
